What is Section 508?

Section 508 is an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. It mandates that all electronic and information technology developed, procured, maintained, or used by the federal government be accessible to people with disabilities.

  • Organizations receiving federal funding (in many cases).

Relation to WCAG

In 2017, the Access Board updated Section 508 to incorporate WCAG 2.0 Level AA as the official standard for compliance.
